WEST Devon Borough Council is opening the doors to its new customer services centre in Okehampton later this month. The town centre shop in St James Street will bring all borough council services under one roof. Trained advisers will be able to give residents help and information on services from pest control to planning and from benefits to bus passes. The aim of the centre is that the advisers will, wherever possible, try and resolve customer requests on the spot. The St James Street shop is also easily accessible in a convenient location in the town centre, bringing council services closer to the local community. Cllr Peter Hill, mayor of West Devon, said: ?We are transforming the way we deal with our customers and the new centre is one of the first steps towards our new approach. ?Residents will be able to get all their council queries answered quickly and efficiently through the new centre by trained staff. ?Later in the year we will be further improving on the service by taking it out into the communities of West Devon.? When the new customer service centre opens in late June, West Devon Borough Council?s Oaklands Drive offices on the edge of the town will be open to the public for council meetings only. All other services will be available at the new customer service centre. The Oaklands Drive offices will be closed during 2007 and it is expected that the site will be redeveloped for local housing need.
