CALLINGTON got the boot last Friday when fundraisers mounted a mission for Children in Need.

The town was the last stop in the tour of a giant 14ft boot which depicted the nursery rhyme, 'There was an old woman who lived in a shoe' and on board were members of Caradon Tenants' and Residents' Forum and staff from Caradon District Council's housing team.

It toured towns across South East Cornwall collecting funds for the charity and in the best pantomime tradition the women were dressed as boys and the men as girls. The part of the old woman was played by Caradon's district housing manager, Russell Hale, who is no stranger to charity stunts having previously shaved his head and dressed as a pink pig to raise vital cash for Children in Need.
