SOMEONE has been having a smashing time in the Saltash Road Recreation Park in Callington — but it's all in the name of redevelopment!

The axe is being taken to old and condemned play equipment which is making way for some stunning new attractions — and it looks like the two to three year project to improve the park could be delivered much sooner than expected.

A multi-play unit with slides, climbing areas, ropes and walkways designed on a tin mine, reflecting Callington's rich mining heritage, will be the first to be installed for eight year olds and above, thanks to Playbuilder funding.

For the younger children there will also be some new equipment including swings and slides, based on the same design by Cornwall-based Taylor Made Play.

Landscaping work is also taking place to create a natural style amphitheatre within the ground.

Children from Callington Primary School will receive a presentation on the plans by the town council on Monday. The new additions are expected to be completed in time for the summer holidays.
