TAVISTOCK'S own marathon man has gained recognition for his efforts and had his achievements published in a new book writes Sam Hughes.

Adam Holland was delighted to have a whole chapter of a book about runners who have completed 100 or more marathons, dedicated to him and his efforts.

The book 'Running Crazy' written by Helen Summer, explores the personal stories behind members of the 100 Marathon Club.

Adam was ecstatic to have a whole chapter written about him: 'She phoned me up as part of the 100 Marathon Club and we did a phone interview.

'The book came out on March 5. I was expecting there to be about half a page but there are 10 pages about me — I wasn't expecting it to be so much.'

The chapter gives details about Adam, how many marathons he's completed, the records he holds, challenges he has faced, information about his family and why he runs.

Adam said it was quite scary to think that people across the country would be reading about him: 'It's good scary, and as I am going through it I'm noticing other sections and bits of the book that mention me.'

His favourite part of the chapter is when the author writes about what Adam might look to do next and his unconventional eating habits on his races.

Helen Summer writes: 'I wonder what he wants to do next in terms of specific goals or whether he's just hanging around waiting to be invited by someone else to, oh, I don't know, maybe run non-stop from the North to the South Pole or from Venus to Mars — but no, now I'm just being silly.

'There's no way he would be able to carry enough Jelly Babies, Jaffa Cakes, Mars Bars and bananas to do that, is there?'

Adam said it was the first book he had ever read all the way through.

He added: 'I like that it is not a really serious book and there are funny bits throughout.'

The book Running Crazy by Helen Summer, is published by John Blake Publishing Ltd and is available on Amazon.
