Yelverton Bohemians firsts v Uplyme
THE Yelverton Bohemians maintained their good end of season push to join the top three with a win against a battling Uplyme side in the damp and gloom.
At mid-day it looked like Yelverton would face their eighth game cancelled due to weather but, with the help of the covers, the ground staff worked hard to protect the pitch. With a delayed start and further downpours the match was reduced to 34 overs per side.
Uplyme were asked to bat and the Yelverton opening attack quickly made in-roads, bowling good lines with pace. Both bowled their allotted 10 overs to superb effect, Terry Stevens finishing with 3 for 22 and James Harrison with 3 for 27.
For Uplyme, skipper Ash Caddy (24) and R Thorn (27) dug in but Geoff Brain and Rob Guy both bowled well taking two wickets apiece to finish off the innings at 97.
After the break, the Caddy brothers both bowled well with aggression to carve through the Yelverton top order to leave the Bohemians at 27 for 5. Once again it was the vice-captain Terry Stevens who came to the rescue with 47 not out, helped by skipper Jez Stokes.
Batting with patience, caution and attacking the bad balls, the pair guided the team home without further loss. Terry Stevens has been the single consistent performer in the top order this season, as well as a lead wicket taker in the team.
This was another solid performance by the Bohemians, particularly with the ball, and showed once again how they can dig in to win matches when under pressure. Although just missing out on promotion in their first year in this league, Yelverton will travel to Thorverton seeking a top three finish and ending on three wins from their last three matches.
