Jackson Vending Devon & Exeter Intermediate 1
South Zeal 5
Bohemians 0
ZEAL finished the season with a convincing victory over Bohemians.
For the first half hour it looked as if the game was going the same way as an earlier encounter when Zeal missed chance after chance. Had it not been for some great keeping by Zeal's Cleave Collins the visitors could have gone in at half-time with a two or three-goal lead as they broke on Zeal repeatedly.
But Zeal got their act together and took the lead on the half-hour when Shaun Hiscock broke down the left. He hit in a great ball to Steve Pillivant who scored one of the best goals of Zeal's season with a tremendous volley.
It was now all Zeal and they pushed the visitors back with great football in the second half as Hiscock set up two more goals for Garry Smith and Harley Cann respectively. Hiscock then rounded off a great performance by scoring with a superb chip ten minutes from time.
Steve Pillivant scored the fifth Zeal goal, his second, after some good work by Henry Bellairs had opened up the Bohemians' defence.
At the end of the match Collins announced he was now hanging up his boots for good, at 56 years of age - he came back into the Zeal goal last season when Adam Cann broke his leg.
Cleave has been a great club member both on and off the pitch for many years and is still considered to be one of the best keepers in the league. He will be missed by the Zeal team although they all hope he will continue to play an active part in the running of the club.
