THE bird brains of Boasley are boasting a booming business bonanza! Six children from Boasley Cross School have been taking part in a project for gifted and talented students. They started up their business to design, make and sell a range of bird boxes. After 12 weeks of hard work, deciding on a product, conducting market research, making the bird boxes and calculating a selling price, they took their robin and tit bird boxes to the March meeting of Bratton and Clovelly District Gardening Club. The meeting at Bratton Clovelly Village Hall saw the six young entrepreneurs gave a presentation to the 40 club members present, asking for their support and selling them high quality hand-made bird boxes. All 16 bird boxes were sold and orders were taken for more robin boxes and an owl box. They made a 156% return on the money they spent. The pupils expressed thanks to Maggie and Geoff Barrett, Blake Hendy, Mark Ogborne and their teacher, Mrs Batstone. Budding gardeners are also invited along to the next meeting of the gardening club which will take place on Tuesday April 15 at 7.45pm in Bratton Clovelly parish hall. Guest speaker Charlie Pridham will be giving on talk on 'maximum effect for minimum effort'. Further details are available from Geoff Barrett on 01837 861445.
