BLUEBELLS are blooming at Okehampton Castle and visitors are being invited along this weekend (May 13 and 14) to see them in all their splendour. People can enjoy the spectacular show as they explore the romantic ruins of the largest castle in Devon and experience the large array of flora and fauna that surround the site. Okehampton was laid to waste by Henry VIII, but among the extensive ruins there still remains a gatehouse, Norman keep and a 14th century great hall, buttery and kitchens. The castle was home to the earls of Devon and it has been rumoured that on occasions you can see the ghost of Lady Howard roaming the ruins. The castle is open from 11am to 5pm and entry is free to English Heritage members, £3 for adults, £2.30 concessions and £1.50 for children.
