A BERE ALSTON stud farm and a Callington veterinary practice combined to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The efforts of Collytown Shetland Stud and Calweton Veterinary Group led to a presentation of a cheque for £394 to the charity's senior area volunteer manager Chris Babb.

The funds were raised over two events — the first was Alyson's milestone 60th birthday party where instead of gifts she asked for donations to the charity, and the second when Calweton Veterinary Group ran a foaling workshop at the stud.

The workshop run by vets Paul Hallam and Lee Pritchard was offered free of charge. The day included a raffle with prizes donated from many major retailers and suppliers. Proceeds and donations totalled £134, which was added to the earlier collection, taking the grand total to £349.

Alyson Blamey, of Collytown Stud, said: 'People heard we were raising money for Cancer Research UK and even after the events and cheque presentation had happened still kept giving donations which took our total collection up to £394.

'Cancer Research UK is a charity close to our hearts, I've lost friends to cancer and have members of my own family that have had to undergo treatment so we know how devastating it is and wanted to do something to help the fantastic work that Cancer Research UK do. Thank you to everyone who donated.'
