PENINSULA Power Limited (PPL), the company behind a proposal to build a 23-mw biomass electricity generator on land at Winkleigh Airfield, will tonight (Thursday) present its findings at a public information briefing.

The briefing, at 7.30pm at Chulmleigh Community College, will bring together the authors of the independent assessment reports to present their findings for statutory consultees, and the wider community to consider.

A detailed planning application for the proposed £40-million power plant was submitted to Torridge District Council last month.

PPL chairman Tony Fitzsimons said: ?WINBEG is a ground-breaking project and one which PPL believes will have wide-ranging benefits to the local economy and the local community as well as a long term contribution to developing sustainable energy solutions. So we are very keen for people to understand our aims and objectives.?

Opponents of the scheme have criticised the decision to hold the meeting in Chulmleigh, some distance from the community most deeply affected by the project.

Peninsula Power defended the choice of venue, saying the decision was made with the size of the potential audience in mind and to ensure as many people as possible would be able to hear the details of the reports.
