Chagford seconds v Axminster
IN this one sided game, Chagford outclassed Axminister and in so doing broke this league record for the highest score in 46 overs scoring 389 for 3 in their allotted overs.
The high spots were a maiden century by 14 year-old Billy Searle and 113 by Gary Sizmur who shared a 182 run opening stand before Sizmur was lbw to Broad. Veteran Roger Whittingham joined Searle and they took the score in quick time to 320 when Whittingham was dismissed for an attractive 65.
Billy Searle was finally out for 138 who batted with an assurance beyond his years, and his is the youngest player to make a century for Chagford.
Axminsters reply was slow against the Chagford attack, Paul Penberthy took the first wicket, but it was Steve Sizmur who in a spell of 10 overs took the next three wickets for just seven runs, while Paul Wakefield chipped in with two wickets. Whitting, 2wkts, and Gary Sizmur, 1wkt, as he took the last wicket to fall - Phil Spong, who had batted with complete assurance in a losing cause.
This gave Chagford victory by 311 runs and another 20 points as they top this second eleven table.
In the 15 divisions of the Devon League Chagford Seconds are the only team to have won all their games and have the remarkable total of 156 points out of a possible 160.
