OKEHAMPTON and District Table Tennis League started the season on October 3 with the Bill Fogerty Trophy. Winners last year, Tavistock A, were drawn against Okehampton C, winning 9-0. Fred Phillips, Peter Hicks and Robert Bowkett won in straight sets. A new Okehampton College A team of Alex Wren, Jeremy Bristow and Richard Mounce were against Moretonhampstead B?s Dave Shilston and Richard Underhill who won one singles each. The college won 7-2. Okehampton A?s Barry Vaughan, John Squire and Frank Cockburn were drawn against North Wyke, a new team. In a hard fought match Okehampton A won 9-0 in straight sets. Okehampton B?s Andy Moppett, Peter Richardson and Keith Smith, against Moretonhampstead A, won 8-1. Ken Underhill saved the whitewash, beating Keith Smith in straight sets. Ken also took Andy and Peter to a third leg decider. The results of Tavistock B v Lewdown and Bridestowe v new team Okehampton College B have not been received. All the winners go into the main event and the losers into the consolation event. The league matches start week October 23 with six teams in division one and division two. Division one has Tavistock A and B, Okehampton A and B, Bridestowe and Okehampton College A. Division two has Moretonhampstead A and B, Okehampton C, Lewdown, North Wyke and Okehampton College B.
