AFTER the British weather halting a much anticipated West Devon BMX event twice over the summer, organisers of the Tavi Trails Jam are keeping their fingers crossed and giving the event another chance this weekend.
This Sunday, October 3, Tavistock's Tavi Trails in the Meadows will play host to BMX riders of all ages.
The event will include an afternoon of competitions for all ages with plenty of prizes on offer from sponsors.
There will also be live music from 3's A Crowd and DJ John Harley.
Life BMX will be providing prizes and offering track-side support during the event which will start at noon.
The Jam will cost £1 for spectators and riders, who must bring their own helmets, which will be put towards the trails' public liability fund, which costs almost £1,000 a year allowing riders to use the facility for free.
Keen skaters will not be left out either as Tavistock Youth Café (TYC) and the TYC skate team will also be hosting a Skate Jam on Wednesday (October 3) at Tavistock's skate park.
The skate Jam will take place after school from 4.30pm to dark.
The event will cost £1 per person and will go towards funding to allow the skate team to compete in various competitions across the UK.
Vicki Lloyd and Andy Jarrett from the youth café meet at the skate park every Wednesday evening to promote skating, street surfing and BMX-ing. With funding from Barclays Spaces for Sport they provide skateboards and other equipment so anyone interested can try out the sports for free.
Anyone who would like to try their hand at skating or street surfing can visit the skate park on Wednesdays from 6.30pm to dark.
As well as preparing for the jams, Tavistock Youth Café has been busy training up teams to take part in the annual Abbotsway Walk on October 7.
This year will mark the popular walk's 50th anniversary and the youth café will be entering two teams led by Vicki and Andy. The teams will comprise a mixture of young people from the ages of 15 to 17.
