MORE than £6,000 was raised for the Children's Hospice South West at the Okehampton and District Lions Club Charity Golf Day recently.
The sixth event of its kind attracted more than 250 golfers with players coming from as far away as Yorkshire.
To date, Okehampton and District Lions' Club has donated over over £30,000 to the Children's Hospice South West, which is based in North Devon.
At the evening's prize giving, Okehampton's mayor Christine Marsh praised the contributions of the sponsors and golfers without whom the event could not take place.
She also thanked Lions President Ross Campbell for his efforts for the club and the local community.
A cheque was presented to CHSW representatives Bill Griffin and Jo Barrett on the night by Mr Campbell.
The winning team with a score of 89 points was Tom White, Dave Bickle, Mark Curtis and Del Owen who were each presented with golf vouchers for £150 of golf equipment.
The second prize of a day at St Mellion International Golf Course including buggies and meals went to Barry Coaker, Will Reed, Roland Coaker and Nick Phear and a day at Trethorne Golf Course was the third prize for John Leonard, Harry Hawkins, Mary Keir and Jim Butler.
The golf teams were all local but the winner of the grand draw was Kelly Chastey of Duluth, USA.
Lions' members have expressed thanks to Okehampton Golf Club and its staff for the use of facilities and help to set up and all the sponsors and supporters who made the day such a great success.
