AN exciting new project for eight to 19-year-olds in Princetown and Postbridge has secured £30,000 of funding through West Devon Borough Council from the Big Lottery Fund.

The funding for the project 'Princetown Opportunity for Play' (POP) will be used over three years to provide free activity sessions during school holidays as well as for three away days per year.

Consultation with local youngsters has begun to find out what adventure activities, sports, arts, music, dance and other activities they would like to see included.

The programme, due to start next month, is managed by High Moorland Community Action (HMCA) based in Princetown.

Ali Hirst, headteacher of Princetown Primary school, said: 'When I first heard about the POP project I was thrilled. It will provide the children and young people of Princetown with a huge range of activities and experiences on their doorstep — what a unique opportunity.'

The paid posts of a play leader and play assistant for this project are currently being advertised.

Anyone who would like an application pack or for further information on the project or to go on a mailing list contact HMCA on 01822 890732.
