I WONDER how many local disabled people, accustomed to leaving their cars in West Devon car parks, displaying their blue badge, will now return to find they have incurred a fine?
Closely typed information has been stuck to the meter board but apart from needing the vision of an airline pilot to read it, those of us with blue badges don't normally go to the meter.
Was there any consultation with disabled groups in the area as to the effect this change may have?
I can walk short distances with a stick, however, those severely disabled are now required to get themselves to the meter and back again. This could be an arduous task for some, quite apart from the burden of the extra cost of parking.
And perhaps a council officer could tell me how many meters in West Devon car parks are accessible to those in wheelchairs? And how many councils in England charge the disabled for parking?
