STUDENTS from Okehampton College enjoyed an afternoon of browsing when they opened their new library last month.

The library, which took six months to complete, was changed to create a more comfortable and enjoyable environment for students to work in.

Devon Library Service was heavily involved with the transformation, helping to reduce the library's initial books, which were in poor condition, and select new ones.

New furniture has been added for comfortable seating, and easier shelves to access, along with a new computer suite, which has been constructed to accommodate the students' classes and individual research.

English teacher Helen Stevenson, who also runs the library council, said students and teachers are impressed with the changes.

She said: 'It's lovely to see so many new books.

'We're hoping to have themed weeks with book authors coming in to heighten the library's profile.'
