WEST Devon anglers can look forward to some better access and facilities when they visit the fishing lakes at Cadover near Yelverton this summer.
Thanks to a partnership between clay giant Imerys, which owns the lakes, the Environment Agency and lake leaseholders Plymouth and District Coarse Angling Club, a variety of new facilities have been installed in the area, which were officially declared open last Friday.
Disabled toilets have been built at the lakes, making them more accessible to wheelchair users.
The car park has been upgraded, new handrails have been installed and improvements to the fishing ?pegs? around the lakes make angling easier for the disabled.
Lesley Newport of the Environment Agency said: ?One of the main aims of this project is to make fishing accessible to everyone, whether fit and able or not.?
She said the improvements were carried out thanks to partnership between the owners and leaseholders of the lakes, with financial support from the National Lottery?s Awards for All scheme.
Alan Rose, the angling club?s fishery development officer, said: ?We are delighted that all these different organisations have come together to help us in our efforts to improve facilities for all anglers, including disabled, ladies and families.?
