YOUNG Gunnislake musician Beth Rose, 18, was one of 100 up and coming composers who took part in the runners-up day for the BBC Young Composer of the Year competition recently.
Beth, a former student of Callington Community College, travelled to London for the day which involved talks and practical workshops and culminated with seats at a BBC Proms concert at the Royal Albert Hall, featuring internationally renowned musician Evelyn Glennie and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
A panel of contemporary composers provided answers to the burning questions put forward by many students who are hopeful to break into this competitive career.
This year was Beth?s second and final attempt at the young composer competition which is open to young people between the ages of 12 and 18.
Along with Jess Kitt, Sam Baxter and Simon Stevens, also from Callington College, Beth will continue her interest in composition when she attends the first national sound inventors? course for young composers later this month.
The four were among a handful of students selected to attend the week-long residential course which will see them working with professional composers and musicians to learn performance and improvisation techniques.
