WHEN a knight won his spurs in the stories of old, he was gentle and brave, he was gallant and bold — and he made sure he had a good breakfast! A special breakfast is all set to be held at the Plume of Feathers in Okehampton for this year's St George's Day on Wednesday April 23, starting at 8am. The breakfast is open to anyone and costs £6, with 20% going to charity. During the breakfast, prospective parliamentary candidate for Central Devon, Mel Stride of the Conservative party, will be announcing the winners of the poetry competition that has been held in different primary schools leading up to St George's Day. St George is the patron saint of England as well as other countries. One of the myths attached to St George is the story of how he slew a dragon and converted all the people of a single town to Christianity. Booking for the breakfast is advisable and places can be secured by contacting the Plume of Feathers on 01837 52815.
