CHILDREN in Need night in Okehampton will again see a legion of five-legged racers dashing around the town. Okehampton 41 Club will be organising the popular five-legged race on the evening of Friday, November 18, which has raised many thousands of pounds for this worthy cause in the past few years. For those unfamiliar with the rules, teams of four with their legs bound at the ankle race around eight of the pubs in town only pausing for a well earned drink at each one. Each team is sponsored by friends, family members and workmates and late entries are always welcome from any team prepared to pay a £5 entry fee. There will be lots of prizes to be won on the night for the winners in the men?s, women?s and mixed classes as well as a new class for the first business to finish, the best-dressed team and the team which has raised the most sponsorship on the night. Chairman Paul Ancorn said: ?As Okehampton people will know, the five-legged race has become the town?s major contribution to the Children in Need appeal. By extending it to three-legged teams as well we hope to have even more entries. ?I am sure that once again we can look forward to an incredibly good turnout from participants and spectators alike and a really good fun evening. This is 41 Club Golden Jubilee year so we hope to make the event particularly special.? 41 Club is an organisation for ex-members of the Round Table which raises money for worthwhile causes. The start, as always, will be at Simmons Park and the finish by the West Bridge. Entrants will need to check in at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Entry forms are now available at Bob Gee and Co Estate Agents in East Street, the DIY suppliers in St James Street and at the Post Office shop counter. Forms should be completed and handed back in as soon as possible addressed to Paul Harrison who can also be contacted on 07785 747617 if anyone has any queries.
