Duchy Premier Lamerton 0 Bere Alston 5 LAMERTON learned a few harsh lessons in this anticipated clash. There were two casualties inside the first 20 minutes with Ben Rushall pulling his hamstring for Lamerton and Bere Alston captain Will Westlake straining a groin. Lamerton should have taken the lead inside three minutes when striker Pete Broomfield went through on goal twice in quick succession but the better chance produced a scuffed shot into goalkeeper?s Craig Howells arms. Bere then began to capitalise when Steve Daymond, who was a constant threat running down the left, slid a ball to opposite winger Dave Hallett for the first. Daymond, who was clearly the difference in the first half, also set up number two with a similar run into the box. This time though, he was body checked by defender Paul Breyley, and a penalty given ? which Mark Wheeler converted. At 2-0 at half time, the game was not over, especially with Lamerton?s Steve Gibbings stemming the threat of Daymond in the second half. When Bere Alston?s Dave Hallett moved into centre midfield Lamerton began to be outplayed. Daymond switched wings and poor Lamerton defending allowed him to strike in a fine left foot shot, leaving keeper Pete Daniel with no chance. Ross Hann then scored a fourth for the away side and had a fine header, via a flowing Bere move, brilliantly saved by Daniel. There was time for Hann to see his deflected shot fly into the top corner from 25 yards. It was perhaps harsh on Lamerton, who deserved a goal, with Rich Searle going closest near the end with an excellent strike from outside the box. An impressive victory for Bere Alston leaves them flying high at the top while Lamerton linger near the bottom of the league. On Saturday Lamerton are at home to Sticker and Bere are away to St Dominick. Kick-off 2.30pm.
