East Cornwall division one Holsworthy Reserves 2 Bere Alston United 6 BERE Alston bounced back last week from the home defeat against promotion rivals St Stephen with this emphatic midweek win in North Devon. However, it was not all plain sailing in the first half, when, despite dominating the opening 20 minutes in which they created and wasted a series of chances, Bere fell behind to a sucker punch goal against the run of play. From a quick free kick on the edge of the Bere penalty area, the ball was fed into Jason Cordice, who turned sharply and finished with a low drive past Craig Howells. Undeterred, Bere continued to dominate and were soon level when James Crawford came in off the right flank and unleashed a great strike into the top corner. Surprisingly though, Bere's defence had not learnt their lesson, as they allowed Jason Cordice too much room in the penalty area and he duly supplied an identical finish to restore Holsworthy's lead. Bere drew level again just before half time courtesy of a close range finish from Ross Hann after being set up by a downward header from Will Westlake and they went into the break at 2-2. Bere manager Kevin Taylor felt that providing they could keep tabs on the lively Cordice, they would go on to win the game, and so it proved, as the second half was pretty much one way traffic. Ross Hann completed his hat trick with two more close range finishes, Zac Beesley made it 5-2 when he outstripped the defence before slotting the ball home and Will Westlake rounded off the scoring when he broke free on the left hand edge of the Holsworthy penalty area and fired into the net off the underside of the crossbar.
