THIRTY-one of the 34 club members from Bere Alston Trekkers swapped their trainers and shorts for frock and suits and made it through the ice for the clubs annual presentation evening which, for the second year running, was held at the Olde Plough Inn, Bere Ferrers.

Trophies this year were awarded to: Newcomer, female: Jo Campbell, newcomer male Julian Setterington; male Bat of the year, Derek Hicks — for his brilliant efforts in running lots of races and racing money for St Luke's Hospice.

Female Bat of the year: Sue Collins — for turning out in all weathers and for continually supporting other members in their training especially on the Sunday runs.

Club member: Laurence Sargeant — for his great work in leading runs especially the 'away' runs on the moor in the summer. Athlete of the year: Jo Bourton for running two brilliant half-marathons and being an inspiration to other members —not bad for a lady who said she would never run.

Presentations were made to club chair and head coach Dotty Allan of Wharf Vouchers and a photograph album entitled 'This is Your Life' which included newspaper cuttings for all the activities that have taken place this year for the club and comments from all members.

Dotty said: 'Through the pages of Times Sport would like to thank all club members for their continued support, as well as club members from Tavistock Athletics, the Saturday Ladies and the Monday Men and the Times for their support.  A big thank you is also extended to George and Phil who make everything possible.'
