BERE Alston Parish Council has placed two new benches in the village to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Both benches have been placed at the top of steep walks and it is hoped this will particularly benefit older members of the community while also attracting others. The bench at the top of the steps leading to the car park in Pilgrim Drive should be particularly useful to those with heavy shopping to carry home.

Chair of Bere Alston Parish Council Hilary Boot-Handford said: 'Many people have commented on the need for somewhere to rest at the top of the Pilgrim Drive steps and I'm very pleased that the parish council has been able to accommodate their wishes.'
