FIRSTLY, congratulations to Geoffrey Cox on his election as MP. However, even before he has his feet under the table I have my concerns already. With regard to his giving up full-time work as a barrister, Mr Cox states (Times, May 12) that his overriding priority will be the constituency, but he adds that ?anything outside that will be only as far as the priority allows?. This seems to suggest he will continue doing some work as a barrister. I wonder if Mr Cox would care to share with his constituents how he believes that being an MP is a part-time job? Is it simply that he believes earning £57,000 a year as a backbench MP isn?t enough money to live on? Dave Goodwin 2 Cleave Cottage Sticklepath
