Devon Senior Cup first round Buckland 0 Lamerton 3 A GAME of good spirit and competitive edge was observed at Crapstone?s pitch as locals Buckland and Lamerton went head to head. Buckland started better but with a strong wind and Lamerton keeper Pete Daniel anticipating well, they did not create the chances they ought to have. Talented midfielder Alex Ross was always a threat, but the athleticism of Lamerton?s midfield and the strength of the back four often thwarted the hosts. The first half would have been correctly deadlocked if it were not for the constant running threat of Ben Rushall. Latching onto a hopeful ball catching Buckland?s defence off guard, he confidently rounded the keeper to score on 35 minutes. Lamerton carried on some good play in the second half. Dan Healy moving up front brought a fine save from Buckland stand-in keeper Lee Glanville. Buckland pushed on in the last quarter and were unlucky not to equalise. Sub Andy Fallon turned two players on the edge of the box and curled a delightful left foot shot, which hit the post, rolled across the goal-line and out of play. The resulting corner saw the same post hit, this time by Tony Goodwin?s towering header. With their luck out, Buckland saw the game slip away when Lamerton striker Zac Beesley, spotting the keeper off his line, curled in a superb goal from 35 yards. Lamerton had chances on the break and it was no surprise when a third came, Beesley setting up Healy to score. This Saturday more local action, back in the Duchy Premier League, Lamerton v Bere Alston. 2.30pm.
