TAVISTOCK Beekeepers' Association is on the hunt for a new apiary site which can hold eight bee hives. Members of the association are on the look out for a sheltered rural area of about half an acre within a six-mile radius of Tavistock, on reasonably level ground and with vehicle access. Tavistock beekeepers said it would be an advantage if the site had an existing shed or building where the association could store equipment or alternatively, permission to erect a wooden structure. The association already has an existing apiary site near Brentor with eight hives and although members feel this is an ideal spot for queen rearing, they think it is a little too high for the best honey yields. If anyone can help the beekeepers in their search for a new apiary site, or is interested in finding out more about the association, contact Alison Howes, chairman of the association, on 01822 612340.
