Devon Cricket League E Division West Yelverton 1st XI v Dunsford WITH Dunsford unable to raise a team and the unseasonal weather again curtailing many other matches, Yelverton were able to extend their lead at the top of the table to 25 points with a 20-point maximum awarded for Dunsford?s ?no show?. With only four league fixtures remaining, this week Yelverton make the short trip down the A386 to second placed Roborough for a crunch fixture. Devon Cricket League C division Yelverton Second XI v Kentisbeare YELVERTON closed the gap with the leaders as they managed to dodge the worst of the weather in East Devon and defeat bottom team Kentisbeare. Skipper Tony Carter won the toss and with the prospect of wet weather arriving at some point, had no hesitation in asking Kentisbeare to bat first. Yelverton?s opening bowlers Hood (2-30) and Shrivastav (2-24) immediately hit their line and length and Kentisbeare struggled to 50-4 with only Howe (30) looking comfortable. The introduction of the leg spin of Ben Vince (2-11) and the miserly Pearson (3-23 off 12.4) kept things tight and Kentisbeare were dismissed for 127 with three overs to go. With one eye on the weather, Yelverton?s openers Dan Vince (19) and Kevin Beare (42) set about the task of chasing down the total required with gusto in an opening partnership of 66 off 12 overs. Once they both departed, it was left to veteran Mike Chetwynd with 46 not out and Pete Garland with 18 not out to see Yelverton home to a comfortable 8-wicket win. It must be said however that the Kentisbeare team were sporting enough to stay out in the field as the weather closed in as many other teams would have opted to come off. l This weekend, Yelverton entertain Ivybridge at Langton Park, 2pm start. Moorland Bats Tamar Cricket League B section Yelverton 3rd XI v Tavistock THIS local derby was unfortunately curtailed by bad weather with Yelverton on 85-2. Gerry Keen (42) & Steve West (25) were the main run-getters for Yelverton. This week Yelverton will be hoping for better weather as they entertain Tavistock in their return fixture at Crapstone, 2pm start.
