AWARENESS of floods is the subject of a roadshow being held in Tavistock next week by the Environment Agency and West Devon Borough Council. People are invited to come along to Bedford Square today (Thursday) between 9am and 5pm to find out what they can do to reduce the risk of flooding. Environment Agency staff will be there to discuss flooding issues and to provide up-to-date information and advice. Finding out whether your home is in a flood risk area, understanding what you can do to reduce the risk and taking action in advance are the key steps in preparing for flooding and reducing the emotional and financial costs it can cause. West Devon mayor Cllr Ken Williams said people should try and visit the exhibition. 'It is so important everyone is aware of what to do in a flooding emergency and here's the very opportunity to find out.' The exhibition will offer the opportunity to explain simple measures that can be taken to minimise the impacts of flooding. In addition, owners of riverside properties will be able to discuss their rights and responsibilities. There will also be an opportunity to find out if they can register for Floodline Warnings Direct, a free service that provides flood warnings for those at risk. Businesses and households at flood risk who join the service can receive flood warning alerts via telephone, mobile, fax, SMS text, email and pager. Anyone wanting to find out if they are eligible for a flood warning can also call Floodline free on 0845 988 1188. Alternatively, advice can be found on the agency's website http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/floo">www.environment-agency.gov.uk/floo d
