Devon Plate Competition

Tavistock Ladies 2

Teignmouth Ladies 3

TAVISTOCK'S Kate Eadie made her second appearance for the 1st XI and demonstrated what good skills she has at such a young age.

The game opened with Tavistock making some good attacks and driving the ball into the D. Emma White worked well and dribbled the ball past the opposition and into the D.

Laura Stapleton, Susannah Boulle and Steph Mills distributed the ball around for Laura Armstrong and Lisa Butler to have some runs up the pitch.

The opposition had a break and drove the ball into the D. Soozi Baggs saved the first shot but was unable to prevent the rebound from slipping into the goal.

Another goal was scored by Teignmouth as the defence of Tavistock were outnumbered in the D by three to one.

With a determined stance, Tavistock attacked on the next push back and started to worry the defence. Numerous short corners were awarded to Tavistock and a good ball from Armstrong allowed Stapleton to take the strike. The shot was rebounded but Armstrong slipped it past the keeper.

The opposition brought the ball down to Tavistock's defence and a dubious short corner was awarded. Fiona Dunn chased the ball outside the D and two sticks connected onto it, Dunn's and the opposition. The ball lifted and went into the goal.

As the ball was struck outside the D, the umpire gave a hit out, but was later overruled by the other umpire claiming a deflected goal should be awarded. The umpire changed his mind.

Tavistock came out in the second half more goal hungry and Boulle, Armstrong and White worked well together on the left. Mills gave some good feeds into the D and Tavistock were putting pressure on Teignmouth.

A short corner was awarded to Tavistock and Stapleton took an excellent strike to score.

A penalty flick was awarded against Tavistock for a minor offence and Baggs saved the shot.

Tavistock battled until the last minute but were unable to beat 13 players.

Player of the match: Steph Mills.

This week Tavistock are at home at 12.30pm with a friendly match against Newton Abbot.
