Okehampton Argyle U12s 9
Combe Martin U12s 3
THIS was the first league game of the season for Okehampton and they took the lead early in the first half with a goal from Robert Dunn.
Combe Martin fought back to equalise and took the lead to make it 2-1 at half-time.
The second half saw Okehampton take control, scoring seven goals in 17 minutes with Dunn netting five more, Sam Appleby one and Jamie Stevens an excellent individual goal. Combe Martin scored again and Okehampton's final goal was scored by David Smith.
Man of the match: Jamie Stevens.
Sandford U13s 1
Okehampton Argyle U13s 3
OKEHAMPTON went one up within a minute when Joe Turner, defender-turned-striker, ran decisively through the defence and shot with power.
They kept the pressure on resulting in Turner, Chris Holland and Carl Poynton all having several shots, but unable to get past the keeper.
Then a speculative long kick and breakaway run from Sandford made it 1-1 at half-time.
With many rolling substitutions, Okehampton dominated the second half and their strong defence kept Sandford at bay. Poynton's determination paid off with a goal from a long shot. He went around three players and scored from an acute angle to make it 1-3.
In a concerted attack near the end, Sandford were foiled when Scott Tremain cleared off the line twice.
Joint man of the match: Carl Poynton, Daniel Smale, Scott Bradfield.
