THE first acts taking part in the 2014 Okehampton Battle of the Bands took to the stage for an energetic first heat last week. In a closely-judged heat on June 25, the eventual winners were Plymouth- based band LGM One, who impressed the judges with their unique electro-pop-punk sound. In second place was Okehampton band Faustus MD. Chris Hodgson, Battle of the Bands organiser, said that the heat was a fantastic start to the competition. He said: 'LGM One are an energetic band who fuse musical genres and who engaged brilliantly with the audience. They are sure to be crowd pleasers at the Party in the Park Final. 'Faustus MD gave an amazing performance given that they all work away from each other and that they put their show together in just a few days. 'Applause must also be given to the other three acts, Pirate Copy, Concrete Donkey and The Lion who completed the heat line-up and who provided great value entertainment that was appreciated by everybody.' The third heat of the competition, sponsored by Steven's Estate Agents, Balsden Vehicle Services, Okehampton United Charity and the Plymouth Inn, takes place on Wednesday, July 9. Details of the second heat will be in next week's Times. The competition culminates with the party in the park finale on Saturday, August 2. The event promises a day of great entertainment with music, food, a bar, and the AC/DC tribute act Livewire headlining. BBC Radio Devon's Matt Woodley will be compère for the event.
