THERE were more successes for local players from Horrabridge and BATs Junior Badminton Clubs at the recent Under 11 and Under 13 Caradon Badminton Tournament.
In the U11 girls' competition Abi Maunder swept all before her in the singles to come through the round robin stages. In the knockout stages Abi left nothing to chance when she dominated the other players before winning the final comfortably.
In the girls' doubles Abi partnered her friend Amber Marshall and they showed their keenness to win when they played well together to win the doubles trophy.
The U13 girls' competition went a similar way to the U11 competition with Rebecca Ward repeating the feat of Abi. In the singles Rebecca found little competition in the round robin stages but had to work harder in the knockout stages. In the end she won comfortably.
In the girls' doubles competition Rebecca played with Alice and though the pair had never met before the tournament they played well enough together to win the doubles trophy.
The recent Plymouth and District Christmas Handicapped Tournament saw two pairs from BATs enter. In the round robin stages Julian Cooper and his mother Heather played in what turned out to be the 'group of death' when one pair received a much better handicap than everyone else expected. Julian and Heather did well to come third in their group and narrowly miss going through to the knockout stages.
Alan Berry and Elizabeth Rae played in the opposite group to Julian and Heather and took full advantage of their handicap by managing to take first place in the group after scoring 89 points out of a possible 90. In the semi-final Alan and Elizabeth played up against a top division one pairing but after a long and very tiring game just failed to go through to the final.
