THE Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Partnership has organised a bat watching evening and a summer apple tree pruning day.
The bat watching evening on Saturday July 10 will be led by a local botanist and conservationist who will take visitors for a gentle stroll through the Bere Peninsula.
Lockeridge Farm, Bere Alston, provides an atmospheric setting to learn about bats, and also houses a family of owls.
The walk is free of charge and suitable for all ages, although children must be accompanied by a responsible adult - dogs are welcome.
Bat watchers are asked to meet at Bere Alston Primary School at 7pm.
The apple tree pruning day is being held in tandem with Cornwall Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group on Wednesday July 14 between 10am and 2pm. Pruners are asked to wear suitble work clothes and footwear and to bring lunch as well as secateurs, a small bowsaw, pruning saw and long-handled loppers if they have them.
The event costs £10. Meet at 10am at Hodges, a private orchard in Botus Fleming. Booking is essential for both events. Call 01579 351681.
