A BOOK regaling village life in Northlew in the 1940s and 1950s is now on sale to raise funds for Exeter Leukaemia Fund.
Barry Ware has been busy for the past few years writing 'True Stories and Tales of a Chap from Northlew, Devon'.
The book looks back at his memories of growing up in Northlew in the 1940s and 1950s, including country pursuits, village life, Christmas, rabbit trapping and even trips to the dentist.
Barry was inspired to write the book not only to recount his memories of village life, but to raise funds for Exeter Leukaemia Fund.
He was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2004, and underwent six months of chemotherapy and a blood stem cell transplant.
He has personally paid to have 900 copies of his book printed, so that all the proceeds can go towards ELF.
Barry said: 'Exeter Leukaemia Fund have been fantastic to me.
'The National Health Service and ELF have done an awful lot for me and I am so grateful, I wanted to do something to give something back.'
Copies of the book will be available from the Exeter Leukaemia Fund website, http://www.elfcharity.org.uk">www.elfcharity.org.uk and are available directly from Barry by e-mail on [email protected]">[email protected] or by calling 01837 82499.
