IN Division One of the Okehampton and District Table Tennis League Dartmoor Fringe were at home to Tavistock A. Barry Denner playing his first match for Dartmoor Fringe inflicted the first defeats for Fred Phillips, Peter Hicks and Roger Bowkett. Scoring a fine maximum he then joined Keith Smith in the doubles and in a hard fought game against Fred Phillips and Peter Hicks winning 11-5, 9-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-9 but Tavistock still won the match 6-4. Tavistock B were at home to Bridestowe. Dave Edwards won the first game for Tavistock B in four legs against Phill Down. Bridestowe stepped up a gear winning the next eight singles - Mark Fogerty and Francis Griffiths both scoring fine maximums. Tavistock B won the last doubles with Dave Edwards and Colin Brooker beating Phill Down and Francis Griffiths, Bridestowe won the match 8-2. Bridestowe were at home to Dartmoor Fringe who were without Barry Denner and Andy Moppett replaced by Peter Richardson and Ian Smith. Mark Fogerty played Peter Richardson in the first game; Mark won in four legs to put Bridestowe ahead. Dartmoor Fringe levelled when Ian Smith beat Phill Down in five legs. The match was all square at 4-4, when Mark Fogerty completed a fine maximum beating Ian Smith in the last singles and then joined Francis Griffiths in the doubles against Peter Richardson and Ian Smith. Peter and Ian took the first leg 15-17 but Mark and Francis took the next three for a 6-4 win for Bridestowe. In division two Okehampton West End were at home to the J Team, Nick Jackson and his daughters Naomi and Sarah. Nick beat Richard Rose, son Martin beat Naomi to level 1-1, Trevor Drew won the next against Sarah putting West End 2-1 up. Nick beat Martin to level 2-2, West End won the next two games to go 4-2 in the lead. In an exciting game against Martin, Sarah just lost 11-9, 13-11, 7-11, 10-12, 13-11. Trevor Drew lost to Nick in the next game who completed a fine maximum, Richard took the next against Naomi to put West End 6-3. Richard and Trevor took on Nick and Sarah in the doubles winning in three legs making a final score 6-4 to Okehampton West End. In division two the J Team were at home to Moretonhampstead. David Shilston put Moreton in the lead beating Sarah Jackson in four legs. The J Team then took the next three but the next was a hard fought game with Sarah against Richard Underhill, ending with a win to Sarah 6-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9, 17-15. Nick Jackson completed another fine maximum to put the J Team 6-1 in the lead. In the next Naomi took on David Shilston in another hard fought five leg game David just winning 9-11, 11-8, 11-6, 12-14, 10-12. Nick and Naomi won the doubles against David and Richard for an 8-2 win for the J Team.
