Tavistock 3

Okehampton 2

THE men?s hockey teams of Tavistock and Okehampton played their new year local derby match on Saturday.

Playing on their home Kelly College pitch, with a strong first-choice eleven available, Tavistock started as favourite and dominated the opening half. The Okehampton keeper made some excellent saves until John Barratt celebrated his birthday by opening the scoring after 20 minutes.

Okehampton played themselves back into the game by breaking up the attacking play of Tavistock and created several chances of their own. A Tavistock short corner just after half-time was converted by captain Kev Lethbridge, but Okehampton countered immediately with a well taken goal by Mark Parsons, beating keeper Oz Osbourne from close range.

Good work on both wings by the father/son combination of Phil and Tom Honey saw centre forward Damian Heard denied by the crossbar. Okehampton levelled the score with a flicked shot from a short corner by their man of the match, Richard Jones.

Tavistock?s man of the match, Matt Way, gave the home side victory, finishing with a strong shot from the edge of the D with three minutes left to play.

This Saturday Tavistock A v Torbay C, 4.30pm, Kelly College, league; Okehampton v OPM A, league.
