SALTASH Town Band will play at Tavistock's United Reformed Church on February 23 to raise money for a new disabled access.
The church in Russell Street needs £16,000 within the next two years in order to comply with the law on providing disabled access. It is the only church in the town which has not yet overcome the problem. The money will buy a chair-lift, which is seen as a better solution than installing a ramp.
The minister, the Rev Roger Cornish, said he thought the church's central fund would give half of what was needed, but they needed to raise the other half first.
Mr Cornish's 17-year-old daughter Naomi, who is learning music at Estover Community College, will supply the percussion at the concert.
Mr Cornish is trying to learn the trombone with Saltash's training band, but said: 'I am not brave enough to play at the concert.' He will be the master of ceremonies instead.
The 30-strong brass band, which plays many types of music, will be supported by members of the town's Stannary Band. Some members of the Saltash band, including Naomi Cornish, played at the Proms night in Tavistock Town Hall last autumn.
The concert is at 7.30pm and tickets can be bought from the Tourist Information Centre, Book Stop and Allan Dolan's, or on the door.
The church, built in 1836 and leaky, needs around £70,000 spent on it for necessary repairs and fund-raising is likely to go on for several years.
