TAVISTOCK Versatile Brass Ensemble (TVBE) has welcomed a new face to its band, with the appointment of a full time associate conductor. Dave Dobson joins the enemble bringing with him a wealth of experience in conducting and music making, together with a breadth of musical knowledge that he is eager to share with the group. With his flair of exciting, quality music, ranging from Baroque to pop, band members are looking forward to him making his mark on the local musical scene. Having been associated with Dave in the past at a number of events, TVBE members are thrilled to be working with the talented conductor and Dave has already started working with the group on a number of new arrangements especially for TVBE by Chris Northey, (resident music arranger), several of which will be premiered at the band's forthcoming spring concert at Tavistock Parish Church on Saturday, May 3. Dave joins a long line of conductors and musical directors who have led Tavistock Town Band/Tavistock Versatile Brass Ensemble, a group that traces its musical history in the town back to the early 1900s. Recently the group has been joined by a number of new full-time musicians, increasing membership to a core of ten. Together with a team of five percussionists, Tavistock's brass group hopes to become a leading light, performing quality live music throughout the area. Tickets for the forthcoming concert, which includes well-known pieces such as Mr Blue Sky and Arunjuez Mon Amour, together with some exciting new tunes that show off the band's sense of fun, are now on sale from St Luke's Hospice shop Tavistock, priced at £6. Proceeds are in aid of St Luke's Hospice and band funds.
