STANNARY Brass Band is looking for someone to play the band's largest instrument — an E flat bass. One of the band's stalwarts, bass player James Furneaux, said farewell to his fellow musicians last week. He is moving on to train as a naval officer at Dartmouth Naval College, and the band gave him an engraved tankard as they wished him well. However, his departure leaves a vacancy for a bass player, which is the heaviest brass instrument to carry on a march. The replacement player could either be an existing bass player or someone who is willing to train as one. The band welcomes players of any standard and Peter Jones, the musical director, would also be particularly delighted to hear from any tuba, euphonium, baritone or trombone players. They would have the choice of playing for the main band, the youth band, training band or beginners, depending on their age and ability. Call Peter on 01822 610074 or John on 01822 612675 if you are interested.
