THE Okehampton Battle of the Bands is offering a tantalising opportunity for the finalists in this year's big event.
Participants who get through to the final could win the chance of performing at 'Teenage Rampage 2009'.
This event is staged at Colston Hall in Bristol where participants gain help and support with their music from professional music mentors.
Organisers of Okehampton's Battle of the Bands are looking for more talented bands of different styles from across the region to join in the popular summer event.
The 'Battle' is now in its sixth year and offers the chance for bands to showcase their act live.
It is run specifically for the benefit of the musicians and audiences who take part in the contest and is free to enter and watch.
Bands of any musical persuasion can take part, gaining experience of playing live to a packed audience.
Organiser Richard Appleby said it was vital contestants applied in good time.
'All potential contestants need is 20 minutes and a couple of chords, but I'd urge everyone to apply early,' said Richard.
'We are looking for a wide variety of different kinds of music — age or experience are not an issue.
'Once you get up onto that stage, it is a level playing field.
'Any music goes in The Battle of the Bands, from soul to funk or reggae to rock.'
There will be three heats to be held in July in Okehampton's Charter Hall. Each heat will see eight bands compete, with the top two each week going through to the final.
All the finalists will receive major prizes, including studio recording time, guitars and amplifiers.
Heats are on Thursday, July 16, Thursday, July 23 and Thursday, July 30.
The grand final will be held on Saturday, August 8 in Simmons Park.
Teenage Rampage Summer 2009 will be held at Colston Hall in Bristol on Saturday, September 19.
