AFTER months of meetings, business owners in Tavistock are now viewing the final business plan for a proposed Business Improvement District (BID) in the town, in preparation to vote for the scheme by the end of this month.

Tavistock Chamber of Commerce has spearheaded the BID in Tavistock which, if it can secure a majority 'yes' vote, will see money injected into projects to enhance the town centre.

A partnership between businesses and the local authority, the BID proposes an increase of 1.5% of businesses rateable value which is put into a ring-fenced account, and used to pay for a number of projects which have been voted for by business owners and set out in the business plan.

Some of the projects outlined in the business plan include reduced rates at some car parks, subsidised training to meet business needs, increased and better use of signage in the town and increased marketing of Tavistock to increase footfall in the town.

Business owners and managers now have until June 29 to view the BID business plan and vote for whether the BID should be implemented in Tavistock.
