THE new multi-million pound Lidl supermarket, currently under construction in Tavistock's Plymouth Road, will not now open until February.
The store, being built on the old McDonald's site opposite Bishopsmead, was originally scheduled to be open on January 28.
But a spokesman for Lidl this week confirmed that customers would have to wait a further two weeks before they could use the new shop.
Oliver McGuinness said: 'The new opening day has been confirmed as February 11.
'The delay is due to the adverse weather conditions we have been suffering.
'I was up there in Tavistock last week and it's all coming on, but obviously you can't break up concrete when it's frozen, it's just one of those things unfortunately.'
Mr McGuinness said recruitment for the new supermarket had already taken place — the Lidl investment has brought approximately 20 new jobs to Tavistock.
