AN auction offering a rare bottle of wine for sale in Chagford has had to be postponed, due to the bad weather which hit the region last week.

The bottle of Chateau Latour 1991 was due to be auctioned at the Jubilee Hall in Chagford last Saturday, January 9, but the sale was postponed when traders and buyers were unable to reach the village.

Chagford resident Richard Davies, who donated the bottle of Premier Grand Cru Classe Chateau Latour, said it was the first time the auction had ever been postponed.

He said: 'Chagford is still very open, but many traders and buyers from a large area including Tavistock had phoned to say they were unable to drive across to Chagford — therefore it was reluctantly cancelled at the end of the week.'

The money raised from the bottle of wine, which is worth at least £200, will go towards refurbishment at St Michael's Church in Chagford.

The organ at the church is currently in need of a complete overhaul and rebuild, which is set to cost tens of thousands of pounds.

Other bottles of wine which have been donated by Paul Henderson, the former owner of Gidleigh Park Hotel, will also be on sale.

The auction will now take place on Saturday, March 6 at 1pm where the sale of the wine, along with other excellent wines, will take place.
