Barnstaple U14s 14 Okehampton U14s 0 OKEHAMPTON forwards played their best rugby of the season in this game, putting their opposite numbers under a lot of pressure in the scrums, taking some of Barnstaple ball, and the back row of Will Heard, Jake Chisholm and Rob Long picking up any loose ball at the back of the Barnstaple scrum. Okehampton?s rucking and mauling was excellent with the second row of Luke Crocker and Dan Braime driving well. Long, Bennie, McGrattan and Simpson all gained a lot of ground, controlling the ball against a well organised Barnstaple defence. But Okehampton?s normally potent back line did not function well and were put under a lot of pressure by Barnstaple, causing mistakes on which Barnstaple capitalised. Okehampton U12s 35 Barnstaple U12 7 OKEHAMPTON completed a double over the North Devon team, playing some excellent rugby. Attacking from the start, Okehampton forced a five yard scrum after some good forward work. Jordan Lee crashed over and converted his own try. Within minutes Jamie Hignett dived over with backs and forwards showing some stunning handling from deep within their own half. Thomas Mallett was outstanding, twice securing first phase ball during the move. Barum came back well, only to be thwarted by good defence with Duncan Carter and James Stratton doing well. Okehampton?s forwards continued to play well, a good drive by Eric Bright and Martin Hann allowed Chris Knott to burst through from halfway to score a good try. Barum came right back into the game and crashed through Okehampton?s defence from a penalty ten yards out. At half time Okehampton rang the changes with their ever-increasing squad. New players Chris Humphries, Declan McCaffery and Ben Laycock all performed well. With the Barum defence under tremendous pressure Jordan Lee and Pete Gillard both crossed to increase the lead. Jordan Lee added two conversions and also Will Lethbridge to complete a thoroughly convincing win against hard working opposition. Training at Club 6pm Friday.
