Tavistock 1st XI v
Babbacombe 1st XI
TAVISTOCK made the trip to Babbacombe for another crucial league match. Dave Manning, the Tavistock skipper, lost the toss and Tavistock were asked to bat on what proved to be a lively wicket.
Luffman and Roestorff put on 39 for the first wicket, before Luffman was bowled for 23. Roestorff followed shortly after, caught behind for 27.
This left Searle and Manning together. Manning went cheaply, but Searle bludgeoned a quickfire 29 before being caught on the boundary.
Tavistock found themselves in a spot of trouble at 93 for 5. Mortimore and Kaitiff rescued the day with a fine partnership of 94 runs, Mortimore scoring 56 and Kaitiff chipping in with 24.
This partnership enabled Tavistock to reach a deserved score of 206 runs.
Babbacombe made a solid reply, led by Australian Arthur Hook. At 96 for 2 Babbacombe were very much in the game, with Hook looking dangerous.
Gauler removed Thompson for 19, then followed up by getting Hook out lbw for a fine 48.
Stubbs arrived at the crease and chanced his arm for a quickfire 15. However, after Luffman caught him in the deep Babbacombe proceeded in batting for the draw,
Roestorff and Nicholson took late wickets, which gave Tavistock hope, but unfortunately the home side hung on for a draw.
Tavistock picked up 15 points, which puts them second in the table with six games to be played.
