FOUR schools in West Devon and East Cornwall have been recognised for their ?strong commitment? to the arts by the English Arts Council. The schools were given the awards under the new Artsmark scheme which the council hopes will raise the profile of arts education by rewarding schools for ?exceptional achievements? in the arts. Callington Community College and St Rumon?s Infants school in Tavistock were both awarded top marks under the scheme and received a gold award. Okehampton College and Calstock Primary were also commended ? both were awarded silver. The South West Director of Arts Council South West Nick Capaldi said the awards were ?a reflection of the commitment and energy of the pupils, teachers and governors who have worked so hard to put the arts and creative learning at the heart of school.?
