WHEN it comes to helping out in the community there is a shop in Horrabridge that is more than happy to chip in. In recognition of its services to the village, The Chippie in Station Road has been highly commended for the local community award by Wrights (the bakers) who sponsor the award promoted by the fishing industry authority Seafish. One of the local teams the business sponsors is the village football team Horrabridge Rangers. It also backs the Mayflower offshore amateur rowing club and is helping the club to buy new gigs and equipment. The shop also contributes to local charities. This is not the first time the fish and chip shop has been acclaimed — it also qualified for the fish and chop shop of the year top five in Devon and Cornwall 2007 to 2008 and earned a quality award and were winners of the good food guide 2007/2008. It has also been nominated for a customer excellence award 2008. Owner John Andrews and his wife Sandra are delighted with the honour, especially as Sandra comes from the village so this is a very special achievement for her. 'We feel our greatest contribution is the role the shop plays in the local community. It is not just about chips,' said John.
