YELVERTON Ladies league tennis teams celebrated the season?s success, of two teams being promoted, by having a meal at the Bird?s Nest restaurant in Tavistock.

Ladies? Captain Ann Short congratulated all the players on a great season?s play, and presented Shirley Every with a plaque for team player of the year.

This acknowledged Shirley having the best averages in Division 3 of the Plymouth and District League and her commitment and consistency to the Yelverton team

At the League Annual Awards ceremony held in Plymouth last week Shirley also received an award for her averages.

Roger Froud from the men?s A team received an award for having best averages in men?s league Division 3.

Phil Gasche collected the runner?s up award for the men?s division; Ann Short collected the runner?s up award for ladies division 3 and Joy Tynan collected the runner?s up award for ladies division 5. This was the best league performance for the club in their 20 year history. All three teams are promoted for next season.

The club?s annual mixed doubles tournament took on a different format this year and was played on one day instead of over two weeks. Twenty-four players took part and were divided into two divisions. The final was between Emily (a junior member) and Simon Murray and Phil and Karen Gasche, the top pairs in each group.

In a closely fought final Phil and Karen won the trophy.
